Preserving and Improving Socialism was the slogan of the CTC, Cuba's only labor confederation.. — "Preserving and Improving Socialism" was the rallying cry of the CTC, Cuba's only labor confederation.

HAVANA TIMES, May 2 — Thousands of residents of Santiago de Cuba turned out early on Tuesday morning to take part in the International Workers Day parade.

Carrying flags and mostly wearing red, the workers passed through the city’s Antonio Maceo Revolution Square.

Most of the banners and signs said: “Preserve and Improve Socialism”, the theme designated by the CTC, Cuba’s only labor confederation.

The march was accompanied by conga drummers and accompanying dancers as is traditional in Santiago.

The MCs of the parade announced the groups along with the sectors of the different contingents of workers.

Some of the pictures I took were taken despite the security cordons that made it nearly impossible to get close to the march. Hopefully they will give you an idea of what the morning of May Day was like in Santiago de Cuba.
