A Visit to the Havana International Handicraft Fair

HAVANA TIMES – Every December, Havana becomes the center of creativity and tradition with the celebration of the International Handicraft Fair (Fiart), an event that brings together artisans, designers, and artists from Cuba and several other countries. This space, located at the emblematic Pabexpo fairgrounds, is much more than an exhibition of objects; it is a multicultural gathering where stories, techniques, and innovative ideas intertwine.

The 26th edition of the event, taking place from December 6 to 22, includes around 30 foreign exhibitors and over 200 Cuban participants. The fair’s aisles come alive with colors, textures, and sounds that reflect the diversity of the participating nations.

From utilitarian ceramics to handmade jewelry, furniture, wooden sculptures, and textile creations, each piece is a testament to the talent and dedication of its creators. Visitors have the opportunity to speak directly with the artisans, learn about the materials they use, and understand their crafting processes.

The International Handicraft Fair is not just a marketplace but is also a platform for cultural exchange and the preservation of traditions. In the complex context of the island, which is undergoing a prolonged economic and energy crisis with high inflation, people have found ways to reach the fairgrounds, such as this reporter, who went by bicycle to bring you these photographs and share them with you.
