Cuba Has 81 Plus Heading for the London Olympics

HAVANA TIMES, April 25 — So far, Cuba has 81 athletes who have qualified for the London Olympics, to be held from July 27 to August 12, reported the Cuban Press Agency earlier this week.

The archer Juan Carlos Stevens is the latest representative from the island to obtain his ticket to the Britain-held event following his performance in the qualifying tournament in Colombia.

Olympic passports to Cubans are being distributed as follows: track and field (30), boxing (7), taekwondo (3), diving (2), boating (6), rowing (6), wrestling (12), cycling (4), weight lifting (4), shooting (4), swimming (1) and table tennis (1).

Notwithstanding, there are still some 60 Cuban athletes with possibilities for qualifying, read the news note, which also mentioned that pre-Olympic competitions have yet to take place in the specialties of badminton, judo, the triathlon and the modern pentathlon.
