Cuba Wins 3 Bronze in Paris Judo Tourney
HAVANA TIMES, Feb 6 — Cuba walked away with three bronze medals in the Paris Grand Slam judo tournament that was held at the Palais Omnysports of the French capital over the weekend, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
The medals went to Idalys Ortiz (78 kg) and Yanet Bermoy (52 kg), while the island’s third place winner in the men’s competitions was Asley Gonzalez (90 kg), who was awarded 36 points against all of the judokas he confronted.
According to Cuba’s female team judo coach, Ronaldo Veitia, each medal brings 120 points, which she described as positive results that surpass last year’s performance.
Some 700 athletes from more than 100 countries participated in the judo tournament, all seeking to qualify for the London Olympics this summer.
