Cuban Pitcher Wants to Re-take the Mound
HAVANA TIMES, Dec. 3 — Cuban baseball fans are speculating about the possible return of Norge Luis Vera, an icon of pitching on the island, who had bid farewell to the mound this past September.
According to the website www.tvsantiago.icrt.cu, Vera requested sports authorities in Santiago de Cuba to return to baseball. The request was said to be currently under review by the Cuban Baseball Federation.
Notwithstanding, in an interview with the Juventud Rebelde newspaper yesterday, national baseball federation executives denied having received any request from the right-handed star.
Vera played in 17 Cuban league seasons, won three Olympic medals and participated in the second World Baseball Classic.
