Cuban Volleyballers in Olympic Qualifying Matches in Tijuana
HAVANA TIMES, April 12 — The Cuban women’s volleyball squad will play for the regional Olympic qualifying title in Tijuana, Mexico, from April 27 to May 6, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
At this North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) tournament will be a mix of young and veteran players. Cuban trainer and former men’s coach Juan Carlos Gala is confident that “the warrior spirit of the Cubans” will show on the court.
The islanders are situated in a less complicated first round group, facing the teams from Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica and the host country, as — in the words of Gala — “They hope to win tickets to London.”
