Cuban Women’s Baseball Team to Participate in World Cup in Canada

HAVANA TIMES — A women’s baseball team from the island will participate in the World Cup, to be played from August 10 to 19 in Edmonton, Canada, reported the Cuban media on Thursday.

A team coach, Margarita Malleta, said that among the players selected, five of them took part in the tournament in Chinese Taipei six years ago and another seven attended the global games in Venezuela in 2010.

Named as the manager of the Cuban women’s squad was former player Juan Padilla, who was an Olympic champion in Barcelona in 1992 and in Atlanta in 1996.
