Two Cuban Swimmers Win Medals in Canet
HAVANA TIMES — Cuban swimmers Hanser Garcia and Pedro Medel won medals on Thursday in the 100 and 200 meter freestyle and back stroke competitions, respectively, in the French swimming meet in Canet, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
Garcia, the national record holder, picked up the gold with a time of 48.89 seconds after beating out Canadian athlete Brent Hayden and Frenchman Yannick Angel.
Cuban back-stroke swimmer Medel succeeded in defeating his French competitor Benjamin Stasiulis by four milliseconds to set a record of 2.00.34 minutes.
The Cubans are participating in these tournaments on the European Mare Nostrum circuit to prepare for the London Olympics set to begin next month.
