US-Cuba Negotiations Continue Friday

HAVANA TIMES — Negotiators from the United States and Cuba will continue talks on Friday in Washington towards the opening of embassies after having achieved “progress” on the first day of the bilateral dialogue, announced the Cuban Foreign Ministry and the US State Department.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry simply noted that there had been “progress” made in the negotiations.

The only stated agenda item is to pave the way to the opening of respective embassies in Havana and Washington.

State Department spokesperson Marie Harf announced that the two delegations will offer separate press conferences at the conclusion of the round of negotiations on Friday.

The meeting Thursday lasted seven and a half hours. Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Roberta Jacobson, led the US delegation, while Josefina Vidal, director of US affairs at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, headed the Cuban delegation.

Nothing about the content of the meeting was revealed today, only that progress was made and that the talks continue of Friday.
