Rural Cuban Portraits
By Elio Delgado
HAVANA TIMES, July 8 -To make a portrait is to bring out what is hidden inside. It is to capture a look, a smile or grimace, without posing. This means doing so with images, not what people say, but capturing all they have to say: their life, their story, their happiness and hardships, their tasks.
Generally, you get the portrait after sharing time with people for a few days, sometimes much longer – and there it is, with all its sensitivity and the subjectivity.

Elio Delgado, These “Rural Cuban Portraits” were super great.”
I ¡hope! I will be able to visit the Rural Part of Cuba when it is legal for me to visit Cuba. I am interested in seeing all of Cuba, not just Havana. I am 80+ Perhaps I will be able to have my picture taken with others that are my age. I have lived in Eastern North Carolina where bright leaf tobacco is grown. In the beginning tobacco was hand cut and put up in tobacco- barns to dry. Now a lot of the work was done by machines.
The world knows that Cuba grows tobacco and makes the best Cigars in the world. Again I am interested In visiting all of Cuba. Meanwhile I will be learning Spanish 5 days a week at Spokane Falls Community College in Spokane, WA USA
