Cuba Offers its “Unwavering Support” to Daniel Ortega
HAVANA TIMES – The Cuban government closed ranks with its Nicaraguan ally Daniel Ortega on Thursday, against what it called destabilizing attempts against his government, reported dpa news.
“I wish to reiterate our unwavering friendship and support, and our total willingness to continue strengthening the historic ties that unite us,” wrote Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel in a message to Ortega, published on the cover of the official newspaper “Granma” and stated Thursday afternoon by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez at a pro-Ortega rally in Managua.
For his part, the head of Cuba’s all-powerful Communist Party, ex-president Raúl Castro, had similar works, highlighting the “unwavering support and solidarity in the face of attempts to destabilize that sister nation to overthrow the legitimately constituted government.”
In his congratulatory message for the 39 years of the revolution that brought the ruling Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) to power, Diaz-Canel criticized what he described as “interventionist actions and attempts to destabilize the Nation that have caused unfortunate losses of lives and substantial material damage.”
Nicaraguan human rights organizations have documented that the violent police and paramilitary action has claimed the lives of more than 300 people, although the Government has only recognized 49 deaths in the last three months.
The Cuban government supported the FSLN during its struggle in the 1960s and 70s against the Somoza dictatorship and once in power it backed the “Commandants”, including Ortega, from 1979 to 1990, and again after he returned to power in 2007.
Diaz-Canel himself fulfilled a mission in the 1980s in Nicaragua and later as vice president attended the commemorative events of the Sandinista victory on July 19, both in 2016 and 2017, but this year he sent Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez .
So what does the support of the dictatorship in Cuba mean? What does it bring? What value does it have? Does Cuba have influence at the UN? Will Cuba supply weapons and other military support to Ortega? I am inclined to believe that this expression of support, like every thing else coming from these extreme left regimes is simply empty rhetoric.
Why would any member of the “socialist” dictators club criticize another. When an apple in the barrel turns rotten, the others inevitably follow. The only visible difference between Ortega and Bruno Rodriguez is that Bruno looks better fed, but in terms of admiration of repression, they are a match. Diaz-Canel Bermudez merely follows in the footsteps of Raul and Fidel Castro in his support for repression and dictatorship.
The word FREEDOM in any form is anathema to Marxism/Leninism believers.
