Cuba’s Alcolea Now 2nd in Cycling Event
HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 16 — Defending Vuelta a Cuba champion Arnold Alcolea has quietly moved into second place in this year’s 13-stage event behind Canada’s Ryan Roth who won stage seven on Monday.
Just over half way across the long narrow island of Cuba, Roth of the Spidertech team heads the General Individual Qualification with 24:52.07 hours, 2- Arnold Alcolea (Team Cuba) at 18 seconds out and 3-José Alarcón (Mérida, Venezuela) is third at 59 seconds back.
In the team standings: The Cuban National Team is first with 74:39.22 hours, Universidad del Deporte, Cuba is second at 1:28 minutes out while Team Colombia is running third 2:23 minutes behind the leaders.
