Alcolea Takes Lead in Vuelta a Cuba
HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 17 — Consistency took Arnold Alcolea to the lead of the Vuelta a Cuba cycling competition on Tuesday after the eighth stage of the 13-stage event crisscrossing the island.
Venezuelan Jose Alarcon (Escaladores de Merida, Venezuela team) won the two mountain prizes and is in second place 37 seconds behind Alcolea’s 27:22.34 hours in the General Individual Qualification. Yennier Lopez, like Alcolea on Team Cuba, is third a minute and 22 seconds back.
As far as the times by team: Team Cuba is first with 82:13.15 hours; the Colombian team is second 4:54 hours back and Cuba’s Universidad del Deporte team third 10 minutes and 44 seconds back.
