Anthology of a self-portrait
HAVANA TIMES, March 11 – The photographic exhibition “A flor de piel: Antología de un autorretrato,” by Peruvian artist Anamaria McCarthy, opens Friday, March 12.
McCarthy, who was born in New York but has lived in Lima since 1973, began her artistic career through such forms as painting, ceramics and engraving. Photography, however, attracted her attention in 1987 – the year she began to devote herself exclusively to that visual expression, particularly nudes.
Among the outstanding moments in McCarthy’s career are her receiving a medal at the 50th International Hall of Photography of Japan (1990) and recognition at the first Photography Biennial of San Juan, Puerto Rico (1998). Likewise, in 2001, she published their first book of photos, “Memoria del Cuerpo,” which was followed by “Fotografía Corporal” in 2003 and “Anamaría McCarthy: fotografías 1990–2008.”
