Britain Begins Housing Asylum Seekers on a Barge Described as a “Potential Deathtrap”
HAVANA TIMES – Britain has begun housing asylum seekers on a large barge off its southern coast in an effort to save money over housing migrants in hotels. This comes despite numerous protests and warnings. Last week, the firefighters’ union said the barge was a “potential deathtrap” due to a lack of fire exits. There are also reports that the barge has no life jackets.
Richard in ont Canada wages are the same or up 25 percent in the past 5 years house and apartment prices are 3 times as much to buy or 2 times as much to rent
Food and other costs are up . A very bad government in ont put profit of the rich ahead of the workers. We have to make a choice pay rent or buy food and medicine. Many people get sick as truck drivers in Canada and loose their income and get medical bills that the companies they work for will not pay while driving for them
The jobs in Ontario or Vancouver or Australia do not pay enough to pay rent.
The church will give us a free shower 1 time / week
.The church often supplies a free place to put up tents and meals if disabled and homeless. In ont the gov can not bill for ambulance if you are homeless.many jobs do not pay enough to pay rent
Stephen Webster. You write, “Most homeless people have jobs and have good food and can afford to buy clothing medical supplies.” If they (homeless people) have jobs etc., why are they homeless?
The U K Australia Canada and parts of the United States has a housing shortage and Canada has almost 1 percent homeless in ont or Vancouver.any people live in cars or tent encampments or camper trailers. Rent of a 2 bedroom apartment in Toronto or Vancouver is about $2000U S or $2650 CD a month apartment in New York City is $3000 to $4000 a month. Most homeless people have jobs and have good food and can afford to buy clothing medical supplies. Life in the U K is not like in the movies. Many people coming are Gypsies and do not want to work 10 hours a day 6 days a week. Foreign truck drivers coming to Canada are working 12 to 16 hours a day and often over 70 hours a week. I see many disabled homeless living in tents in New York City. Lots of work is available in health care or in a trade . In the U K or Canada if the workers want to smoke on the job . The boss will not hire or keep them.
