Havana Weather for September 18-24

Hot with Rain in the Capital …
HAVANA TIMES – At the surface over Cuba, weak subtropical high pressure persists. A trough is located over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, situated between about 5 to 12 kilometers high, imposing great instability in the weather across the archipelago. In addition, throughout the troposphere, humid air continues to arrive from Central America and the Caribbean Sea into national territory. This situation generated heavy rainfall and abundant lightning late at night and in the early morning hours in areas of Havana, with significant accumulations in a short period.
In the coming days, unstable conditions will persist in the capital, so numerous showers, rain, and thunderstorms will occur, some strong in certain localities, and extending into the night. The mornings will be partly cloudy in much of Havana and occasionally overcast in northern coastal areas with isolated rain. In the afternoon, the whole territory will become cloudy. Winds will be from the northeast at speeds between 15 and 30 kilometers per hour. Relative humidity will range from 70% to 95%. High temperatures will be between 30 and 32°C (86 and 90°F), and lows between 21 and 23°C (70 and 73°F). Sea surface temperature will be 30°C (86°F).
At 5:00 PM (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Gabrielle was located near latitude 19.4 North, longitude 48.0 West. Gabrielle is moving northwest near 14 mph (22 km/h), and a northwest or west-northwestward motion is expected to continue over the next few days. Satellite data indicate that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 85 km/h (50 mph), with stronger gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours, but some gradual strengthening is expected over the weekend. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 335 km (205 miles) from the center, mainly in the eastern semicircle of the storm. At present, this tropical cyclone poses no threat to Cuba.
In the rest of the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico, tropical cyclone development is not expected in the next 12 to 24 hours.
