How Can I contact Idalberto Valdez of Cuba’s National Volleyball Team?
Question: I’m a Russian journalist trying to write an article on Idalberto Valdez Pedro, the assistant coach for Cuba’s National Volleyball Team. But I don’t know how to contact him. NORCECA doesn’t have any information. Maybe you can help me?
Answer: Cuba’s volleyball ability, both the men’s and women’s teams, are world famous. Since 1955, the Federación Cubana de Voleibol has been registered with NORCECA (North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation). Representing some 35 member countries at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB or Fédération Internationale de Volleyball), NORCECA is responsible for, among other things, the staging of Olympic and World Championship zone qualification tournaments, as well as continental championships for both men and women in Indoor and Beach Volleyball.
Cuba’s volleyball coaches are also world famous. For 30 years, Antonio Perdomo guided Cuba’s women’s volleyball team and won two Olympic gold medals in 1992 and 1996, as well as three World Championships, four World Cups and seven gold medals in both the Pan American, Central American and Caribbean games.. When he died earlier this year, the entire country went into mourning.
Orlando Samuel Blackwood, current head coach of the Cuban National Team, was nominated as best coach in 1989 when his team won the gold medal in the Pan American Games, Central American and Caribbean Games, and NORCEC Tournaments among others.
Only slightly lesser well known is Idalberto Valdez Pedro, Assistant Coach of the Cuban National Men’s Volleyball Team. Among other things, he has the Silver Medal at the 1990 World Championship to his credit. To enter into direct contact with Idalberto, it can be done through the Comisión Nacional de Voleibol under INDER (Instituto Nacional de Deportes, Educación Fisica y Recreación), which is Cuba’s Sports Ministry. The email address is [email protected] and in the subject line, put “para Idalberto Valdez Pedro”.
The phone number of the Comisión Nacional de Voleibol, located in Havana, is (537) 644-4546.
