Castro Supports Egyptians’ Struggle for Rights
HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 14 – Former Cuban President Fidel Castro expressed his support “for the Egyptian people and their brave struggle for their political rights and social justice.” In one of his usual Reflections, Castro strongly criticized deposed President Hosni Mubarak, who “was oppressing and plundering his own people, was the enemy of the Palestinians and an accomplice of Israel” and the “principal ally of the United States in the ranks of the Arab countries,” reported IPS.
I am surprised not so much with Castro´s comments as with the date: why didn´t he voice his support the very first day of the Egyptian revolt ie Jan. 25? Did he not know about Mubarak´s pillaging only after Mubarak´s resignation? Why so brave after the battle when everybody suddenly seems to have known without saying a word about it before?
Fidel has the nerve to criticize Mubarak for “oppressing and plundering his own people”? That is funny.
I wonder how he and Raul would deal with similar protests for democratic reform in Havana?
