Cuba Allocates Funds for Mosquito Control
HAVANA TIMES, Dec 14 — The Cuban government issued a report on state spending for the campaign against the “Aedes aegypti” mosquito, the transmitter of the dengue plague that affects the Cuban people, reported Granma newspaper.
According to calculations, in the capital city alone more than a million CUCs (just over $1 million USD) will go for fumigation “bazookas” used for house-to-house eradication of the pests. In addition, some 93,000 CUCs will be spent on advanced equipment needed for extermination treatment on public streets.
Actions by public health authorities have prevented dengue fever from becoming an endemic in Cuba, although the Ministry of Public Health does not release the figures of the numbers of people affected by the disease.
