Pope Wants to Meet with Fidel Castro
HAVANA TIMES, Feb 20 — Pope Benedict XVI expressed his desire to meet with Fidel Castro during his visit to the island this coming March 26-28, indicated sources from the Vatican.
It was added, however, that the meeting has not yet been confirmed and will depend on the health of the leader of the Cuban revolution, said a prelate in a statement to Reuters.
The official agenda of the church leader’s visit currently includes only a March 27 meeting in Havana with the current Cuban president and the brother of Fidel, Raul Castro, after which time the Pope will return to Rome.
