Five Killed in Road Accident in Santa Clara

HAVANA TIMES, March 5 — A traffic accident occurred on Friday in which a bus overturned in central Cuba killing five people – four adults and a seven-year-old child, reported the Granma newspaper.

Another 46 people were injured, including eight children, of whom four have already been discharged from the local hospital.

The accident occurred in the vicinity of the town of Manajanabo, a municipality in the central province of Santa Clara. The driver of the bus reportedly lost control of the vehicle for reasons not yet determined when turning a corner, and the bus then feel into a ravine.

In 2011 Cuba experienced a “substantial” increase in the number of traffic accidents. Currently this is the fifth leading cause of death in the country.
