French Entrepreneurs Seeking Business in Cuba
HAVANA TIMES, March 7 — A delegation from the “Movement of French Enterprises” (MEDEF), attended a business forum with Cuban officials and island entrepreneurs on Tuesday at the Hotel Parque Central in the capital.
All those in attendance were seeking to strengthen trade ties and identify business opportunities in Cuba, which was why the delegation included representatives from the tourism, construction, transportation, energy, agriculture and sugar sectors.
According to a report from Prensa Latina, MEDEF president Pierre Pringuet said the current environment in Cuba, Latin America and globally is favorable to promoting trade and business.
France is Cuba’s fourth largest European trading partner, from which the island imports mainly wheat, additives for lubricants, mechanical parts and accessories, while exporting cigars, lobsters, and rum.
cuba exports lobsters to france. australians have imported vietnamese lobsters to breed. why vietnamese lobsters when there are lots of lobster species in australia including fresh water farmed yabbies which are raised in a mediterranean climate. the english raise baby lobsters and release them into the wild. there are urban lobster farms in singapore. the norwegians have started farming lobsters. there is canned fish from china and ecuador in cuba. if cuba doesn´t have fishing boats fishing rights can be sold. i´ve read that venezuelans don´t fish much either preferring to live off oil revenues. there are green mussels in the florida strait which americans consider a pest. filipinos and thais farm green mussels and like cuba, those countries are on the tropic of cancer and mussels don´t need feeding. the relevent ministry should do some research in the most successful fish farm countries. if carnivorous fish can´t be fed then there´s expensive vegetarian fish.
One of my ideas years ago was backyard fish farm kits. in australia, the equipment for backyard fish farm kits is made in china. in china, ducks and fish are raised together and no need to feed the fish. in the philippines, pigs and fish are raised together and no need to feed the fish. there are ducks and geese in havana zoo.
The giant asian tiger prawn is a pest in the gulf of mexico because native species are at risk. in bangladesh prawns and tilipia are raised in the rice fields and the feed is maize and manure. kurama prawns are the most expensive in the japanese market but they might become a pest too. in the philippines and america algae is fed to milkfish and barramundi. the barramundi waste is used to grow hydroponic vegetables. halibut is vegetarian.
