Chavez to Detail Campaign Plans Saturday
HAVANA TIMES, March 17 — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has called on his supporters to turn out at the presidential palace on Saturday afternoon where he will give “the general political plans” for the campaign leading up to the October 7th presidential elections.
He returned to Caracas on Friday after nearly three weeks in Havana to have a cancerous tumor removed (Feb. 28) and his initial recovery.
“I’ll be on the balcony at noon, I invite you,” said Chavez. He is expected to make known how he will combine his recovery from surgery with governing the country and his campaign for reelection.
Chavez is the Cuban government’s closest political ally and under his presidency Venezuela became the island’s leading trade partner.
