US, China and Cuba Triumph in Sailing Tournament

HAVANA TIMES, May 2 — Participants from the United States, China and Cuba achieved top places in the regatta of sailboats competing off the coast of Havana on the anniversary of Hemingway International Yacht Club, reported the EFE news agency.

The cutter ship competition was won by the American navigator Scott Ferman, who beat out the sailboat Seadition. The cutter regatta was dominated by Chinese sailor Wang Chen, while Cuba managed to win in the spinnaker class (when Victor de la Guardia pulled out in front aboard his ship Retiro) and in the small class vessels with Alain Dupont Garcia aboard the yacht Club Nautico IV.

In addition to overseeing the competitive activities, the board of the Hemingway Club also signed an accord with the Environmental Defense Fund of the United States that is aimed at preserving marine ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea.

More than 2,000 members of the international sailing community from 60 countries are associated with the Cuba-based Hemingway International Yacht Club.
