Assange Denounces Torture at Guantanamo

HAVANA TIMES — A “Russia Today” news program on Tuesday presented evidence of extrajudicial detention as well as physical and psychological torture practiced by US authorities at the Guantanamo Bay prison facility. The program was hosted by Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

Assange and ex-laywer Assim Quereshi interviewed Moazzam Begg, a former prisoner at the US prison illegally based in Cuba, in which Begg explained how the guards forced him to sign an incriminating document.

“After being handcuffed and beaten in front of photos of my children, and while listening to the screams of a woman next to him who they made me believe was my wife, I signed the confession in which I admitted to being armed and ready to join the Taliban against the United States,” explained Begg.

As for Assange, the Australian journalist remains under house arrest and awaiting a decision on his possible extradition to Sweden on charges of sexual harassment, reports the Prensa Latina news agency.

In 2012, Assange’s organization revealed secret documents about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, releasing hundreds of thousands of incriminating documents online from the US State Department.
