Heavy Rains Affect Central Cuba
HAVANA TIMES — Heavy rains have hit the central area of the island over the last week, leaving two people missing, landslides, and damage to roofs and houses, reports the Prensa Latina news agency.
Authorities in the central Cuban province of Sancti Spiritus have evacuated about 600 people, while the municipality of Trinidad is incommunicado in some locations due to the rising of the Caracusey and Agabama rivers.
According to weather reports, precipitation will continue as a result of an atmospheric depression in the area.
It is expected that the Zaza Dam, the largest in the country, within a few hours will reach half its capacity, 1.2 billion cubic meters. Other reservoirs in the area will also benefit from the rain after having suffered a severe drought.
