Carromero Family Hires Havana Attorney
HAVANA TIMES — The family of Angel Carromero, arrested in Cuba after the accident that resulted in the death of opposition leader Oswaldo Paya, has turned to an international law firm with offices in Madrid and Havana, reported Europa Press.
Their lawyer, a Cuban national, has already presented himself to the island’s the authorities but has not been able to meet with the prisoner, who could face a sentence of between one and ten years in prison.
The Cuban government is keeping Carromero in custody in light of indications that he was involved in a homicide. This is only a precautionary measure, since the prosecution has not yet formally filed any charges against the Spaniard, according to the EP report.
