Cuban Cyclist Lisandra Guerra Makes It to the Olympic Quarterfinals
HAVANA TIMES— Cuban athlete Lisandra Guerra succeeded in making it into the quarterfinals of the cycling-sprint in the London Olympics on Sunday, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
Thanks to her strategy displayed in the race, the champion of the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara beat out Wai Sze Lee of Hong Kong with a time of 11.485 seconds.
“It was a fierce competition, but it turned out very well and we’re happy,” said her coach, Hector Ruiz.
For the quarterfinals, Guerra will face China’s Shuang Guo, the bronze medal winner four years ago in this same event and the current leader in the world ranking.
“We’re going to focus on that race because she’ll be facing a very difficult opponent; but if we win, anything can happen because we’ll be among the top four,” stated Ruiz.
