Dissident Jose Daniel Ferrer Freed
HAVANA TIMES — Jose Daniel Ferrer, the leader of the political opposition group Union Patriotica de Cuba, was released on Sunday morning after being held incommunicado since last Thursday in Santiago de Cuba, reported Cubaencuentro.
The activist confirmed that he was at home and is now aware of all actions be carried out by the Cuban government against members of the organization “to prevent them from celebrating the first anniversary of opposition activity.”
Ferrer said that “dozens” of activists in his group remain detained in police stations on the island, adding that many of them have been beaten and others have gone on hunger strikes.
According to the testimony of the member of the “Group of 75,” the police threatened to send him back to prison if he continued with his opposition activities.
