Silvio Rodriguez Concert in Chile
HAVANA TIMES — Cuban singer Silvio Rodriguez gave a concert before 47,000 thousand people on Wednesday at the Estadio Monumental, located in the provincial Chilean capital of Macul, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
According to reports, 250 security staff members were on hand to ensure people’s safety at the event, while transportation personnel increased the frequency of buses serving the area.
The troubadour — accompanied Trovarroco Trio, flutist Niurka Gonzalez and drummer Oliver Valdés — will make another performance on Saturday at the emblematic Estadio Nacional, in honor of the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of that country.
During the period of the dictatorship (1973-1990), the military turned that stadium into a giant torture and concentration camp. In addition, records by Silvio were banned during that period, and he was only able to once again step on Chilean soil after the departure of the dictator Augusto Pinochet.
