Cuban Soccer Players Upset Jamaica to Classify for Caribbean Cup Semi-finals
HAVANA TIMES — On Wednesday, Cuba defeated Jamaica 1-0 to qualify for the semi-final round of the Caribbean Soccer Cup. It will occupy second place in Group B qualifying matches behind leader Martinique, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
The lone goal of Aliannis Urgelles in the 57th minute of the match secured Cuba a place among the “big four” teams, and therefore a shot at the 2013 Caribbean Gold Cup.
Cuba reached the semifinals with six points, the product of two wins and one loss, and will face Group A leader Haiti, while Martinique will face eleventh-ranked Trinidad and Tobago.
