Brazil Donates 25,000 Tons of Rice to Cuba

HAVANA TIMES — Brazil will donate around 25,000 tons of rice to Cuba “to support food-based social protection programs throughout the country,” reported the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations on Thursday in Havana.

According to the ANSA report, a statement by the Brazilian government said the donation “will be unloaded in the ports of Havana and Santiago de Cuba,” while transportation costs “will be paid for by the Cuban government.”

The donation is part of a fund created by Brazil in 2011 to supply 710,000 tons of food to support WFP operations in Cuba, which itself annually contributes about 2,500 tons of sugar to the same program.
