91 Killed in Accidents in Cuba in 2012
HAVANA TIMES — A total of 91 deaths by accidents were recorded in Cuba in 2012, reported the Trabajadores weekly.
Road accidents, falls and direct contact with electricity were the most common incidents, mainly affecting equipment operators and drivers.
Although there was a slight decrease in the number, 47 percent of accidents were due to negligent behavior on the part of the victims, including insufficient training and incorrect methods and working procedures.
According to the report, agriculture, sugar, basic industry, construction, the food industry and fishing were the occupations recording the most deaths, with the country’s capital being the province with the greatest number of accidental deaths.
A very good way to prevent accidents, is each day to review publicly the accidents that have occurred, and how they can be prevented in the future. The problem in most countries, not just in socialist Cuba, is that there may be no consistent policy to do this sort of daily review.
