Bradley Manning Not Guilty of Aiding the Enemy

Today’s verdict follows just three days of deliberation in court martial of Army whistleblower Bradley Manning for the largest leak of classified information in U.S. history. Manning faces up to life in prison for the most serious of the more than 20 charges against him — aiding the enemy — after he leaked more than 700,000 documents to WikiLeaks in an attempt to spark a national debate about U.S. foreign policy. He has pleaded guilty to 10 of the charges which could carry up to 20 years in prison.
After nearly two months of trial at Fort Meade, Maryland, the judge, Colonel Denise Lind, said she plans to announce her verdict at 1 p.m. EDT today. After the verdict, the trial enters the sentencing phase where both the prosecution and defense will present more evidence and arguments.

According to the UCMJ, Manning broke the law. Your enthusiasm for this lawbreaker should be directed toward changing the law. He ignored his chain-of-command and leaked sensitive material to Wikileaks. He broke the law and now he will face the consequences.
Nobody in the US has the right to publish classified diplomatic and military communications. You are guilty of the sloppiest thinking if you confuse freedom of speech with violating an oath of service in the military. Manning is guilty and deserves the jail term he earned. In decades past he would have been shot for his crimes. He should be grateful for the leniency the courts have shown him.
Manning is not a hero and a patriot in my book. We live in an age where the drunks like Bobby Brown run or streets with their civil liberties and the safe streets our forefathers fought so hard for are being eroded by the day. Look at this Brandt

While California is known for having some of the toughest DUI laws in the nation, it seems Bobby Brown has been let off easy. He was released Wednesday after serving nine hours of his 55-day jail sentence for driving under the influence.
L.A. County sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore told the media that Brown was released early due to jail overcrowding and good behavior. A representative for the R&B singer said he is at home with his family.
Manning is a hero and a patriot in my book. We live in an age where the civil liberties our forefathers fought so hard for are being eroded by the day. Freedom of Press, Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembly are mere ghostly images of their original intent. We’ve woken up to an Orwellian Society of Fear where anyone is at the mercy of being labeled a terrorist for standing up for rights we took for granted just over a decade ago.
