HT Cuba 5th Photo Contest FINALISTS

HAVANA TIMES — The 20-member jury of the 5th HT Photo Contest is currently making their selections among the finalists.
Thirty-one photographers have at least one photo in the final round. Sixteen of those have two or more entries in the finals.
The contest started out with 538 photos from 90 participants. The first round of jurying brought the number of surviving pictures to 189.
Then, the second round of selection left 58 pictures for the final round in the following categories: Dance (11), Gardens (12), Lines (10), Rain (13) and Transportation (12).
It took at least seven votes in the second round for a photo to reach the finals.
For the last round of selection we have asked the jury to choose a First, Second, Third and Fourth place pick for each category. These choices will be awarded 10, 5, 3 and 1 point accordingly. The accumulative totals will determine the prize winner and two special mentions in each category.

Although one could argue that the judges were thinking outside the box, I couldn’t help wonder whether the judges had some hidden agenda in picking the “garden” photo of the naked boy next to a shack. Were the judges thinking that this was a good representation of Cuban life? Sorry, but even if I had been the photographer, I would have never entered the winning photo in the first place.
Quede finalista, me siento muy bien , las fotos ganadoras estuvieron muy bien escogidas, mi mayor premio es volver el otro año al a ese bello y magico pais, por lo bien que se pasa y como es su gente, ya he ido dos veces y no cambiare ese destino muy facilmente, vuelvere a fotografiar a su gnte y su historia.

Hello ,what time will you announce your winners,good luck to all.
To give people more time to prepare photos for the next contest we will be announcing the 6th HT Contest in late november. It will have the same Sept. 15 deadline.
thats fine im not in rush , just cant sleep !!! lol anyway im off to Cuba in 29 days time hope for getting more and better pictures for next contest!

Marcin, we give the jury a week to make their selections. They have until midnight tonight to send in their picks. The winners will be announced on November 1 or 2.
