Fidel Castro Forecasts War in Libya

Former Cuban President Fidel Castro reaffirmed his forecasts about an “inevitable military intervention that will take place in Libya,” in one of his usual Reflections published by the island’s state-run press. Castro criticized U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for sprinkling “a great deal of fuel on the fire” and accused the United States and its European allies of wanting to take advantage of the civil war in that African country.

Vatican Promotes Cuba Cardinal Ortega

Pope Benedict XVI named Cuban Cardinal Jaime Ortega as member of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, which advises the churches in the continent, reported IPS, quoting the Miami-based El Nuevo Herald. Ortega has been the government’s principal interlocutor in the negotiations for the release of political prisoners, which began in 2010.

US Students to Give Concert in Cuba

KLM to link Cuba with Holland

The Dutch KLM Airline Company will carry out three weekly flights between Havana and Amsterdam starting October 31, the French Air Journal site reported. The flights will transport a maximum of 285 passengers. KLM currently links the Netherlands with 68 destinations in the rest of the world.
