Oldest Cuban Celebrates Birthday

uana Bautista de la Candelaria Rodríguez, who claims to be the oldest person in Cuba, said her long life is due to the countryside’s pure air, healthy food and her heart always full of love for her fellow persons. The elderly woman celebrated this Wednesday her 126 years of life in Campechuela, a municipality in the eastern province of Granma, where she currently lives.

Cuba Magazine Calls for Greater Citizen Participation

The Catholic magazine Espacio Laical considered it strategic to “provide political trust and contribute, critically, to the construction of a new social pact that articulates the diversity of criteria,” through a greater participation of citizenry. That publication expressed in an editorial its trust in the intentions of President Raul Castro of “articulating a road to national conciliation,” but warned about the obstacles faced by the reconstruction of consensus on the island.
