Canary Islands Pres. to Visit Cuba

The president of the autonomous government of the Canary Islands, Paulion Rivero Baute, will make an official visit to Cuba between February 14-16, informed the Spanish Embassy in Havana.

Cuba Hosts Bolshoi Ballet at Karl Marx

Two world famous ballet companies —the Bolshoi Ballet of Russia and the Cuban National Ballet— will share the stage before a packed house this Friday night at Havana’s 5,000 seat Karl Marx Theater.

Venez.-Cuba-Colombia Head Bike Race

The 13-stage Vuelta a Cuba cycling competition began on Tuesday and Miguel Ubeto of Venezuela topped the clock with a 3:43.50 time for the 153 kilometer trek from Baracoa to Guantanamo. In the overall team ranking there was a three-way-tie for first with Venezuela, Colombia and Cuba all coming in at 11:11.30 hours.

Russian FM: Cuba Key in Latin America

Cuba is a key country in Russia’s relations with Latin America, said Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov who begins a visit to Havana on Wedensday. The official will attend the opening Thursday of the Cuba International Book Fair, to which Russia is the guest of honor this year. Numerous Russian publishers are on hand for the event as well as a broad cultural program with Russian artists.

Puerto Rico Awaits Cuba Reply on Games

The Puerto Rican Olympic Committee awaits an announcement possibly on Wednesday from Cuba on its participation in the Central American and Caribbean Games to take place in Mayagüez in July, said David Ernier, president of the sports entity. Cuba is the all-time leader in the Central American and Caribbean Games and once again the team to beat in the 2010 event.

Enfusion: Traditional Music and Pop

In the serene Pergola courtyard of the Ministry of Culture, the Enfusion quartet will be being presented from 5:00 to 7:00 on Wednesday and Thursday evenings February 10 and 11. Enfusion combines Cuban traditional music, pop and self-authored compositions.

Yolo Bonilla Alternative Music

Yolo Bonilla and his group will be being presented in the Pergola courtyard of the Ministry of Culture, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., on February 22, 23, 24 and 25. Yolo, as they are known by all, is one of the promising groups of Cuban alternative music.

Esa Gente Duo

In the Ministry of Culture’s Pergola courtyard, from 5:00 to 7:00 on February 15, 16, 17 and 18— the duo Esa Gente will be being presented. The pair venture into Cuban traditional music, pop and self-authored compositions.

Anonimo Consejo Rappers

Through rap, the Anonimo Consejo seeks to and succeeds at discovering their African roots. Through its members —Seku Umoya and Coquino— you can see they are succeeding in hip-hop culture and in urban discourse.

Obsesion at FEU Center & Yoruba Assoc.

At the Casa de la Federación Estudiantil Universitaria (Federation of University Students Center / FEU), the rap group Obsesion will be presented on Thursday, Feb. 11, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. They will also perform at the Yoruba Association on Saturday, February 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
