Puerto Rico Awaits Cuba Reply on Games

HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 10 — The Puerto Rican Olympic Committee awaits an announcement possibly on Wednesday  from Cuba on its participation in the Central American and Caribbean Games to take place in Mayagüez in July, said David Ernier, president of the sports entity.

The presence of Cuba is still uncertain, as the islands authorities have demanded that Washington —which controls Puerto Rico’s immigration and security affairs— meet a list of minimum conditions for the athletes and sports delegation.  These include visas for all its members and a guarantee that Cuban airplanes will not be confiscated, reported IPS.

Cuba is the all-time leader in the Central American and Caribbean Games and once again the team to beat in the 2010 event.
