Pilgrim of the Night Xylography Show

Running through Tuesday, January 12, recording artist Aliosky Garcia’s exhibit “Peregrino de la noche” will be on display throughout the day at the Simon Bolivar House. In the exhibit, Aliosky Garcia uses black and white xylography to recreate his obsession with the human body —nude or dressed— which is the display’s center of gravity.

On Sunday, January 10, at 11 p.m., DJ Iván Lejardi, DJ Obi and DJ Ra will be presented in the gardens of the Tropical (located at 41st and 46th, in the Playa district).

In this musical setting, they always try to find a perfect balance between the different genres of music in each specific moment of their performances. Instead of locking themselves into a particular style, each one of these DJs sets out on a musical expedition. The styles they use most are house, trance, and minimal-house.

Music on Stilts in Old Havana

Street music will be presented until Monday, January 18, starting from 11:00 a.m., parading from Calle Obispo to the Plaza de Armas. The artistic groups Giganteria Havana, as well as Giganteria d´ambular and other troupes representing the different regions of Spain, will demonstrate the varieties of performance and music of Cuba and Spain.

Cuban Critics Award Short on Press

The Cuban Association of Cinema Press awarded the short Brainstorm, by writer Eduardo del Llano, one of the prizes to the best national productions in 2009, it was reported by the accredited media in the island. The film, which has circulated from hand to hand among the population but has not been premiered in movie theatres, nor on Cuban TV. Brainstorm questions how the Caribbean country’s state-run press functions.
