On a recent trip to the island, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, president of the UN General Assembly, said that “Cuba is an essential ally for the UN and has strengthened multilateral efforts, because of its firm commitment to the ideas and interest of this global institution to be more relevant for people.”

When I heard the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s speech, criticizing the OAS because they were dealing with women’s reproductive rights, announcing that they would cut funding for this reason, saying that the OAS should be dealing with the crisis in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, I couldn’t help but be reviled by this figure of the Empire…

Covering the history of Cuba’s agricultural sector in a brief article is no easy task. First of all, we have to establish the two very different eras: before 1959 and post-1959, up until our present day.

Anyone who thinks that a military intervention against a revolutionary people can easily bring about a change in government or introduce a counter-revolutionary one, which bows down to the US’ imperialist interests, is wrong because these people’s dignity is invincible.

A lot has been said and written about equality and solidarity in socialism, and by default, the Cuban Revolution. In Capitalism’s economic/social system, inequality, discrimination and selfishness reign supreme, which are the antithesis of equality and solidarity.

“I want the fundamental law of our republic to be the tribute of Cubans to the full dignity of man.” This premise was the longing of our Jose Marti, the Apostle of Cuban Independence, which was used to write the new Constitution.

Every country deserves respect, although there are some who don’t have any self-respect or respect for others and attack them or declare war, not caring how many innocent people might die as a result. They all deserve respect, but countries who have decided to take up their Founding Fathers’ ideas and finish off what they fought for and had to leave incomplete, deserve even more still.

The history of Cuban Constitutions is a history of the different eras we Cubans have lived through. Reading the first article of this new Constitution, to be put to a vote on February 24th, is enough for us to realize that it does in fact respond to the historic moment our country is living.

On Sunday January 27th, not too long after 8 PM, an EF-4 category tornado formed in the heart of a prefrontal trough, which caused great damage in four Havana municipalities, destroying everything in its wake. It’s hard to describe the effects of a natural phenomenon like this one, which is estimated to have the potential to cause more damage than a category 5 hurricane.
