Progreso Weekly founder Francisco Gonzalez Aruca died unexpectedly of a heart attack in his sleep on Wednesday, March 6, in Denver, Colorado, where he lived. He was 72 years old. In 1979, Aruca founded Marazul Charter, which specialized in travel to Cuba.

Venezuela Goes Back to the Polls April 14

Venezuelans will have new presidentiial elections on April 14 to replace Hugo Chavez who died on Tuesday. The date chosen by the electoral council is the same date that Chavez returned triumphant to Caracas after the short-lived US supported coup against him in 2002. The candidates will be interim president Nicolas Maduro and opposition leader Henrique Capriles.

Cuba took full advantage of 12 hits to defeat China Taipei 14-0 on Saturday and remain alive in World Baseball Classic III. On Thursday, the Cubans were left on the brink of disaster when they lost 6-2 to Holland. Ironically they also had 12 hits in the Holland game.
