Chavez Supporters Remember Coup

What many Venezuelans had printed on their T-shirts alluded to this past April 13 when they took to the streets to celebrate the eighth anniversary of the President Chavez’s return to power following the April 11, 2002 coup d’état. Bolivar Ave. was filled with the footsteps and chants of men and women dressed in olive green. A friend told me about her over three months ago. “She was the first black model in Cuba,” she explained, and over that entire period I kept pestering her to help me get in touch with the woman. She was referring to Luz Maria Collazo Reyes, and after the first five minutes of talking with her, I realized that her achievements went a great deal further than having been the first black woman of our runways. Missing My Friends on Mount Avila

I would have preferred to reach the summit along the footpath on the side of the mountains. I would have also given my who knows what to have shared that with my friends. We would have waved at the tourists from below, with our day packs strapped to our shoulders, and when reaching the highest peak we would have taken a detour to steer clear of the tourist center, with all its shops and its ice-skating rink.
