The Film ‘El Premio Flaco’

HAVANA TIMES, January 9 – Until Wednesday, January 13, the Payret Cinema on Prado St. in Old Havana is showing the Cuban film “El premio flaco” by Juan Carlos Cremata.

Based on Hector Quintero’s play by the same name, a very poor woman (Iluminada) discovers a winning sweepstake in a package of soap. This represents a radical change in her way of life, which makes her decide to distribute her few goods between her impoverished neighbors. She comes to discover that human misery is more painful than misery of the pocket.
