Artemisa Communist Party Leader Dismissed

HAVANA TIMES — The secretary of the Communist Party in the province of Artemis, Ulises Guilarte, was removed from his post and replaced by José Antonio Valeriano who until now directed the Department of Industry and Construction of the Central Committee.

According to a report on national television last night, the move was made “at the request of the Politburo, “without disclosing the reasons.” It simply stated that Guilarte “will be assigned new responsibilities.”

The secretary of the Party is traditionally the most powerful figure in a given province in Cuba.

In the new western provinces, Artemisa and Mayabeque, the central government has implemented a new management system, as of 10 months ago, in order to eliminate bureaucracy by separating the tasks of local government and the Party.
