Cardinal Asks US to Take Prisoners

HAVANA TIMES, Aug. 24 — Cuban Cardinal Jaime Ortega asked US authorities during a recent visit he made to Washington that they accept the released political prisoners who have expressed interest in traveling to that country, Orlando Márquez, spokesman for the Archbishopric of Havana, announced, noted IPS.

The Cuban government has promised to release at least 52 dissidents after the mediation by the Catholic Church and Spain, of which 32 have already been freed.
