HAVANA TIMES — Cuba’s Comptroller office announced on Wednesday that it will implement a national audit of 250 companies from October 29 to November 30, reported the island’s official media.

Comptroller Gladys Bejerano stated on television that the current National Testing of Internal Control action will focus on sales of building materials, agricultural and irrigation projects, and local and collaborative initiatives, and will include site visits to importing and exporting companies.

In a review conducted between April and May of last year, 37 percent of the 768 state-run enterprises audited received negative evaluations owing to deficiencies in their account, inventory and payroll records.

In recent months the Cuban courts convicted several officials for corruption, most notably twelve CubaNiquel executives, who were sentenced to prison terms of 4 to 12 years.
