Cuba 15th at London Paralympics
HAVANA TIMES — Cuba finished in 15th place on Sunday at the 2012 London Paralympic Games with a total of nine gold medals, five silver and three bronze, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
On Saturday, the island’s delegation picked up their last two metals when bicyclist Yunidis Castillo won the crown in the 400m T46 competition and swimmer Leonardo Perez took the bronze medal in the S6 100m freestyle S6.
Cuba premiered in the Para-Olympics in Barcelona in 1992, and this year recorded it best performance ever, surpassing its previous best of 23th place achieved in Atlanta in 1996, when it won eight gold medals and three silver.
In a similar ranking, Cuba finished 16th at the London Olympic Games that concluded in August.
