Cuba Insists: the US “Wet Foot, Dry Foot” Policy Must Go

HAVANA TIMES — The Cuban delegation to the migratory talks with the USA in Washington on Wednesday conditioned any new immigration accord on the lifting of the “wet foot – dry foot” 1995 provision in the 1966 Cuban Adjustment Act.

According to Prensa Latina, the Cuban representatives at the talks said that “it is impossible to assure a safe and orderly emigration” from Cuba to the United States, as long as the US policy remains in force.

The talks were hosted by acting United States Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Alex Lee, and the head of the USA desk at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Josefina Vidal.
