Cuban Athletes Take Gold and Silver in Berlin

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban athletes concluded their performance in the Grand Prix of Berlin, Germany, winning two medals: one gold picked up by discus thrower Yarelis Barrios, and a silver one for Yipsi Moreno’s hammer throwing, according to the online edition of the sports publication Jit.

Barrios, a silver medalist in the 2008 Olympics, won by launching her discus 66.59 meters, a better throw than the 66.38 meter toss that left her in fourth place in London. Meanwhile the silver medal went to Yipsi, who achieved a 73.87 meter throw, surpassed only by that of Germany’s Betty Heidler.

The other Cuban present in Berlin was the pole-vaulter Lazaro Borges, who finished in seventh place after only a 5.43 meters vault.
